Deciding Where To Live In America?
America is often considered a nation founded on immigrants. People from all walks of life made the journey to the United States at some point with over half of the current American population able to trace their roots to Ellis Island, the point of entry to the U.S. With America being such a mixed bag of cultures and personalities, the United States can be a great opportunity to be encircled with rich diversity but it can also be an overwhelming adaptation for some.
Whether you’re wanting to socialize with the locals, or simply enjoy your alone time, new research may be able to locate the best states for you to live that match both your personality and mood type. While making the decision on where to live in America requires a lot of thought and factors, finding out what states match your personality can be a great first step!
Using personality test data from over one million people, a multinational team of researchers collected data to map American moods with state-by-state ratings of personality and temperament. With the findings of the study, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, those looking to find residence in America can take a 10-question survey to see which state most closely matches their personality.
According to the study, the most extrovert states were residents in Wisconsin, with the least extrovert-filled state being Vermont. Utah was found to be the most agreeable state in the country, while Washington, D.C. was the least. The study spanned 13 years and included nearly 1.6 million survey respondents from the 48 contiguous states along with the District of Columbia.
Studies such as these can be great preparation tools when deciding what colleges or job locations to apply for. Part of happiness comes with relating with those around us, and therefore being around those slightly similar to us can be important.
Another aspect to consider before relocating to America, is making sure you set aside time to prepare on communication. Not only is proper English knowledge required with the TOEFL exam for U.S. international college hopefuls, it’s extremely helpful for anyone to learn before moving to America. Having an understanding of correct American English communication can help you communicate better with future neighbors, co-workers, and acquaintances and can add to your overall sense of confidence and belongingness in America.
Setting aside time to learn which state is the best match for your personality and learning to communicate with proper American English pronunciation can help you prepare for the next step in your life’s journey; life in the United States!
